We finally have the pleasure of sharing this year's festival newspaper in a digital version.

Here you can, among other things, read greetings from mayor Kent Ranum and general manager Ernst Wiggo, an interview with Sondre Ferstad about his commissioned work, get information about all the concerts at this year's festival and be inspired by our festival routes.

We've had a chat with composer and multi-instrumentalist Sondre Ferstad!

At this year's festival, he will premiere the audiovisual work Pieces of Wood - with phenomenal musicians and artists. The work is a tribute to the joy of creation.

He says: "In a society where we can pay our way out of most problems, we have stopped making things ourselves. I want to show how beautiful creation can be. That's why we stand on stage today and create something together, musicians and artists. Music and wood sculpture. Music in the moment and improvisation in wood carving."

Jazzfest is incredibly proud of the region's young jazz scene and every year gives several bands from NTNU the opportunity to play during the festival. The concerts are in Trondheim Mekaniske (the bar in Dokkhuset) and have free entry!

We repeat the success from previous years and invite young and old to a rich family day at Torvet on Saturday 11 May at 12:00 - 16:00. There will be concerts and entertainment both on and around Torvscenen, our own New Orleans street parade, various food trucks and lots of other fun! All cultural programs are of course free. National treasure Karin Krog and jazz bauta Bjørn Alterhaug honor their musical collaboration, which has lasted for over 40 years, and we get to hear brand new, groovy and animal-inspired music from guitar hero Knut Reiersrud.

Italian Francesca Tandoi brings piano lines a la Oscar Peterson in her terrific swing jazz trio, and Jovan Pavlovic takes the stage all alone with his accordion - ready to play and stretch the limits of his instrument.

Trondheim-born vocalist Anja Skybakmoen celebrates a new record at the meeting point between Iranian musical tradition and the Nordics, and straight from Europe's jazz scene we get to experience the Obradovic-Tixier Duo, with drums, keys and effects in an energetic combination.

Mette Rasmussen, Veslemøy Narvesen and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten make up Mette Rasmussen Trio North, which has created great excitement down the continent with their modern, free and innovative approach to jazz. Now it's Trondheim's turn!

Air Play rallies the troops and pays tribute to former band member with new music, and the up-and-coming Finnish saxophonist Linda Fredriksson fronts their new project Juniper with gusto.

The septet in Eirik Hegdal's steaming fresh Eklektisk Samband meet in its genre-less playground - with a world premiere in Trondheim and at Jazzfest.

Friends & Neighbors mixes new and old in their distinctive and outgoing expression, and the duo Leagus visits Jazzfest for the first time with their dreamy soundscapes from Sápmi.

Trondheim Jazz Festival and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera (TSO) have been partners for several decades and have given the public a number of unique concert experiences. Equally unique is the project "Eastwood Symphonic", which will be the official opening concert for Jazzfest 2024 on Tuesday 7 May at 20:00.

Just listen: Clint Eastwood's musician son - Kyle Eastwood - is on stage with his quintet. Then it will all be taken out in the grandeur together with TSO.

What a pleasure to welcome 800 enthusiastic music lovers at Scandic Nidelven this Christmas - with 17 concerts and musical energy replenishment from over 80 local musicians in one evening.

Many thanks to everyone involved who helped make this evening happen - skilled musicians, volunteers, technicians, staff, sponsors and other supporters, and the continuation of a long-standing pleasant collaboration with Scandic Nidelven. New in 2023 was a record high sale of hotel packages, so it is clear that many people want to wake up to the country's best hotel breakfast!

And not least, a big thank you to you in the audience who turn up to listen, dance, smile and clap along.
