Orbits

Part of a triple concert at Byscenen!

On Friday, May 8th, you can experience three of the most prominent young players in Norwegian jazz and related genres. Veslemøy Narvesen, Orbits and Anna Ueland share the stage in an evening put together to reflect the diversity of young Norwegian jazz musicians.

Orbits
With a groundbreaking sound that blends jazz, soul and experimental music, Orbits turns danceable rhythms into a musical expression that redefines modern R&B.

Orbits is a unique and adventurous musical collaboration between three artists with a shared passion for colorful, intricate and danceable soundscapes. The band was formed in connection with a commissioned piece for Moldejazz in 2022, and the trio Natalie Sandtorv, Erlend Mokkelbost and Lars Horntveth all have different musical backgrounds – from soulful R&B and orchestral landscapes to angular punk and freer forms of jazz.

The band's exceptionally well-crafted production showcases musicianship at a very high level, where vocal and instrumental performances play out in a dynamic interplay that never loses intensity. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Arthur Verocai, D'Angelo and Hiatus Kaiyote, their debut album Blood Red Sky opens up a richer musical landscape that elevates the live experience to a whole new dimension. The result is high-octane energy in an explosive and rich soundscape.

At the release concert for the EP Bad Mantras on Blå in 2024, British Clash Magazine described Orbits as a band that redefines the genre: "Orbits' ability to intertwine sound, emotion and art in a magnetic way." In October 2025, they received the NOPA music award, and recently vocalist Natalie Sandtorv was nominated for the Breakthrough of the Year at the Music Publishers Award!
