Over the past 15 years, Needlepoint has established itself as more than just a prog band. They have become an ensemble that elegantly weaves together folk, pop and jazz rock into a melodic and expansive expression.

With songwriter Bjørn Klakegg on guitar and vocals, and the musical compass Nikolai Hængsle on bass in front, flanked by Erlend Slettevoll on rhodes and Ola Øverby on drums, they create a soundscape where melodic compositions meet fresh arrangements and great improvisational freedom.

In 2025, band leader Bjørn Klakegg received funding to write new music for Jazzfest for an expanded Needlepoint. The premiere will take place at Dokkhuset on Wednesday, May 6, and the band has joined forces with Erik Sollid from Valkyrien Allstars on tenor guitar and fiddle, and Solveig Wang from Nothing Personal and Fieh on synth and clarinet.

Despite new compositions, you can still expect the enchanting sound of Needlepoint with its energetic drumming, virtuoso improvisations and evocative lyrics. You will also enjoy the unique and timeless patterns that the band adds to the great fabric of the music.
