HOLBERG & KAWAGUCHI
📍Byscenen 9. May, 19:30 🎫 One ticket, three concerts
The collaboration between Senri Kawaguchi and Jan Holberg started back in 2017 by coincidence. A video of the 14-year-old Senri was posted on Youtube, and Holberg was truly impressed by what he saw. 14 days later, Jan was on a flight to Tokyo to rrercord the song “Aim to Please” with the young drum sensation.
Senri Kawaguchi is a sensation in the music business and is one of our big stars in the genres of jazzrock/funk/fusion. She has a successful solo career, has toured the world with stars such as Gutrie Govan and released multiple solo albums.
Jan Holberg is based in Malvik outside of Trondheim and holds a degree from Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA). He has over the last 10 years recorded three solo albums with musicians from bands such as Deep Purple, Rainbow, Levell 42 and Mike Stern, amongst others.
Holberg was in 2022 invited to Liverpool to perform Paul McCartney’s song “My Valentimie” in McCartney’s childhood home. He also has a good acquaintance with Madonna, and was allowed to record and release a cover of her song “Papa Don’t Preach”, which was well received by the queen of pop herself.
There’s been a lot of interest to see Holberg and Kawaguchi perform live together, and it’s finally happening at Jazzfest 2025. The repertoire consists of songs from their own catalogue but also jazz, funk and fusion classics. There will be a lot of exciting musical curiosities with a lot of humor and improvisation.
