Silje Nergaard & the Trondheim Soloists
At First Light (2001) remains the best-selling Norwegian jazz album of all time, with over 140,000 copies sold. It truly established Silje Nergaard on the international jazz scene.
Silje began her musical career at the Molde International Jazz Festival when, at the age of 16, she took the stage during a jam session with Jaco Pastorius. The following day, the newspaper Dagbladet praised her as the next big thing in Norwegian jazz. She has developed a highly distinctive style as both a singer and composer, and has toured the world alongside artists such as Pat Metheny, John Scofield, Kurt Elling and Morten Harket.
The Trondheim Soloists (TrondheimSolistene) are renowned for presenting chamber music at the very highest level. Passionate performances, innovation, and innate musical talent are at the core of their work, whether they are producing critically acclaimed recordings, performing concerts from the Lofoten Islands to Berlin, or engaging in meaningful collaborations with musicians across a wide range of genres.
On October 30, 2026, At First Light will be re-released as an anniversary edition on Universal Music. This version includes previously unreleased tracks, offering an intimate look at Silje’s creative process through original demos recorded in her home studio. In 2027, Silje and her band will perform a series of unique anniversary concerts featuring the Trondheim Soloists. You can catch them on Wednesday, May 5, at the Main Hall of Olavshallen.
