Bjørn Alterhaug Quartet
Bjørn Alterhaug Quartet is receiving both national and international praise for the album "Blame It On My Age", and with an age span of 52 years, the quartet shows that music knows no age.
Alterhaug is a giant in Trondheim’s jazz scene with a huge list of merits. He has led several ensembles in addition to having played in the ensembles of Karin Krog, John Pål Inderberg and Siri's Svale Band, not to mention foreign stars such as Lee Konitz, Chet Baker and Joe Henderson.
The quartet is rooted in the jazz tradition with a mature, lyrical presence, and plays dense, warm and exquisitely crafted music. Alterhaug's playing is as strong and refined today as it was a century ago, and withsaxophonist Erlend Vangen Kongtorp, pianist Vigleik Storaas and drummer Tom Olstad, we hear melodic elegance and inspired improvisational excess meet in an intimate venue that suits the music perfectly.
The album title "Blame It On My Age" refers to the ballad "Blame It On My Youth", and shows that Alterhaug, despite his 80 years, is as vital and relevant as ever. The album was recorded in half a day and allows themagic of the quartet format to be dangerously close to its very finest. Now the quartet is visiting Jazzfest and Antikvariatet with the album release, make sure to get your ticket early!
