CHOREOGRAPHY FOR TWO MUSICIANS

📍Rosendal Theatre, Saturday 10. May 2025, 19:00

By Marie Bergby Handeland.
Presented by DansiT in collaboration with Jazzfest.

Friendly chords are swung and lifted, dark sounds are circled, weak beats are sneaked and lured, high bells are jogged and jumped, and gentle interaction is hugged.

Marie Bergby Handeland is a critically acclaimed and award-winning choreographer. This work builds on several of her previous works, such as Håndspåleggelse (2022) where flutes are moved on two floors, Femtimeteren (2018) where instruments are cycled in a large industrial hall, Six Moving Guitars (2019) by composer Fredrik Rasten and Kirkedanseren (2020) where the audience dances alone to organ music. In this work, the audience meets Andreas Røysum and Erlend Albertsen who are experienced jazz and improvisational musicians known from a number of different bands and solo projects. They have a strong interest and curiosity in experimenting with what music can be outside of genre and style.

Bergby Handeland is driven by a desire to create greater bodily community. She wants to turn up the volume on voices and bodies she thinks we should listen to, challenge what we have already listened to by placing it in new frames, and bring out latent choreographies in people and spaces that don't know they have them within them. She is interested in conversations about power, responsibility and closeness in public space – about who we are and how we see each other there.
