Welcome to Julejazz 2023!

Julejazz (Christmas jazz) on 28 December has become an annual tradition, and a popular meeting place for all the city's music lovers.

Trondheim's unique jazz scene fills the Scandic Nidelven Hotel with good music and a great atmosphere, and keeps it going non-stop from 18.00 until well past midnight. The event has grown into the country's largest indoor concert event under the same roof. In 2022, close to 80 musicians performed on three different stages with around 20 concerts.

Among other things, you will hear Mambo Compañeros, Trøndelag Big Band, Anna Berentina Røe Band, Førdenasane and much more!

Siril Malmedal Hauge writes a commissioned work for Jazzfest 2024!

Siril Malmedal Hauge - Rhiza Song

We are very happy that former NTNU Ambassador Siril Malmedal Hauge is writing new music for Jazzfest 2024 with support from the Norwegian Composers Foundation.

This is what Siril herself says about the Rhiza Song project:

"As in a web of roots, messages are sent in a network of communication - a kind of secret language. In this work I feel like digging in the soil and getting my fingers a little dirty. Making life, fishing for fine fibers, intertwining threads, digging in roots, and looking for fertile ground for musical biotopes. I am fascinated by unique bonds between different organisms, and the belonging to each other in a world that is constantly changing."

Premiere: Joyn-In Sessions with ASQ // Amund Stenøien Quartet

Joyn-In Sessions is a new concept of profiling young talented bands and artists from the region, filmed at various venues in Trondheim. First up is the ASQ // Amund Stenøien Quartet, which originates from the NTNU Jazzlinja.

The quartet plays hard-swinging and forward-leaning New York jazz with an inspiring originality - in an energy bomb of a  band.

Amund Steinøien - vibraphone
Joakim Rainer Petersen - piano
Gard kronborg - bass
Steinar Heide Bø - drums

The video was recorded at Havet Arena by BERRE.

Read concert reports from this year's festival

During the festival, we have a number of good helpers who write reviews of the concerts. These have now been published here on our website, and we hope you will read and reminisce about the good concert experiences now that the dust has settled after this year's festival. The concert reports have been written by Ove Bjørken, Kåre Kolve, Helge førde and Jazzfest's staff. Happy reading!

Thank you!

Then an adventure of a jubilee festival is over.

A series of brilliant concerts, smiling audiences, the weather gods on our side and artists who give the audience memories for a lifetime are some of what we are left with. The sun finally shone over the turf when we carried out our nice family day Joyn-In on Saturday. The sum of it all gives us a pure feeling of happiness.

THIS YEAR'S FESTIVAL MOTIF DESIGNED BY ANYA MAGNUSSEN FOR SALE IN A LIMITED EDITION

Visual artist Anya Magnussen has designed City Jazz - this year's anniversary motif.

Jazzfest's good friend for many years, was behind two powerful festival posters in the late 1990s. In connection with the anniversary, an idea came up to reuse some of the material from that time, but Anya was clear that she dreamed of making something new. Thus, we can now present this year's anniversary motif on the front page of the festival newspaper. The anniversary motif is two original serigraphs called City Jazz I 35th Jubilee and City Jazz II. There are beautiful works that are also for sale.
