NTNU JAZZ ENSEMBLE
📍Dokkhuset, Tueday 6. May, 20:00
The Buddy award - the honorary award in Norwegian jazz - was awarded to Maria Kannegaard in 2024. Join us while we celebrate this unique pianist and composer with a concert by the NTNU Jazz Ensemble performs her music, arranged by Eirik Hegdal.
This will be a terrific concert with four different piano trios and a bouquet of the NTNU Jazz Department rising stars performing from Kannegaard's treasures.
For many years, Jazzfest has challenged a young arranger to create a concert with the NTNU Jazz Ensemble where they interpret a beloved artist from Trøndelag. This year is different as the arrangements were written for the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra 20 years ago, but Maria Kannegaard is still a very current artist, based in Trondheim.
Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and Maria Kannegaard trio premiered for 20 years ago with Maria's music, arranged by Eirik. This resulted in the album "Live in Oslo". The anniversary is being celebrated during Jazzfest 2025, with current students from NTNU Jazz Department presenting new versions of this beautiful music. We can recommend warming up with the original album before heading to Dokkhuset on the 6th of May at 20:00, it is truly a treat!
