From Namsos to New York
Jostein Guldbrandsen is a Norwegian guitarist based in New York. He has released three albums as a leader; “Twelve”, “Release Of Tension” and “Looking Ahead»; all having garnered critical acclaim nationally and internationally. Guldbrandsen has performed at clubs such as Birdland, Blue Note, Kennedy Center, Blues Alley, The 55 bar and Smalls.
The exciting Japanese pianist Megumi Yonezawa is also based in New York. She has performed at Rochester International jazz Festival, Umbria Jazz Festival, Village Vanguard, Birdland and Jazz Standard, both as a band leader and as a co-leader with saxophonist Greg Osby. She has released the albums “A Result Of The Colors” and “Boundary», and plays on Greg Osby’s 2004 Blue Note-record “Public”.
Oslo-based bass-player Jens Fossum is known for his versatility, which has made him very much in-demand the last two decades. He currently plays with Knut Risnæs Quartet and Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen amongst others.
Drummer Espen Aalberg has worked with Gulbrandsen in many different settings throughout the years. He has led groups such as The Core and Shagma, and released several albums with Jonas Kullhammar and Torbjørn Zetterberg on the record label Clean Feed.
Jostein Gulbrandsen Quartet will mainly perform music from their latest release “Looking Ahead.
The music draws inspiration from both American as well as European jazz. The compositions contain elements of Nordic lyricism as well as hard-driving post bop.
