JAZZEXPO - THURSDAY MAY 9th
Kirsti Huke "Weaving"
Thursday May 9th - 4:30 PM - Dokkhuset
The work Weaving is originally a commissioned work for Trondheim Jazzfestival 2017 by vocalist and composer Kirsti Huke.
Kirsti Huke has in her entire career worked with genre-exceeding music. With two drummers, trumpet, synths, vocals and harmonium, elements from different genres and phrases-from the acoustic to electronic, from lyrical and introvert to the more extroverted.
Weaving is a work where text and music go hand in hand, where the gaze of the "I" is moved inward and outward. Tracks and text circles around each other, accompanying a thread, merging in each other, as a tissue; - and turns into "Weaving."
Kirsti Huke - vocals, omnichord, harmonium
Gunnar Halle - trumpet, synths, vocals
Erik Nylander - drums, drum machine, percussion
Wetle Holte - drums, drum machine
Mette Rasmussen solo
Thursday May 9th - 5:20 PM - Dokkhuset
Defining a unique balance of uproar and beauty.
Her ability to move between the often strict confines of genres and explore the elements is on full display throughout. In solo affairs as well as in collaborations, she has encapsulated her own personal vision of the role of the saxophone, often turning it into a complete physical experience. Embracing her audience with sonic altitude and prolific melody lines, rocketing a more prosaic stem. Her performances ties together audience and artist, and embodies the energy between the two.
In the recent years she has been touring with among others Godspeed You! Black Emperor throughout France, Australia and USA, Chris Corsano throughout Europe and Japan, Sofia Jernberg throughout Australia, her own band consisting of Torbjörn Zetterberg, Johan Berthling, Raymond Strid, Paul Lytton, and been doing an extensive amount of solo shows all over the world. She is seen in projects and doing collaborations with among others, MoE, Craig Taborn, Barry Guy, Zeena Parkins, Nicole Mitchel, Michio Yagi, Fire! Orchestra and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Newly releases on American Feeding Tube Records with Bhutanese guitarist Tashi Dorji, and on French Dark Tree Records with French guitarist Julien Desprez.

«Hegge» - Winner of the Norwegian Grammy award (Spellemannsprisen) for best jazz record 2017 - is the up-and coming Norwegian composer and double bass player Bjørn Marius Hegge project, consisting of five of the finest jazz musicians in Scandinavia. They invite the audience into the melodical vibe that existed in the 1960s with catchy grooves, humourus phrasings mixed with strong compositions and playful improvisations. Even though the music is highly influenced by jazz legends such as Cannonball Adderley, Ornette Coleman and Charles Mingus, the band collectively drives their music into a different direction where each and every member are allowed to freely express themselves.

Trondheim Voices + Asle Karstad: Rooms & Rituals
Friday May 10th - 6:00 PM - Verkstedhallen
Trondheim Voices consists of some of Norways finest improvising vocalists. A cutting edge ensemble who have made solid statements as developers within vocal- and improvised music, expanding the traditional concert format, searching for new music in the interaction between the singers, the audience, the surroundings and new technology. Each singer’s extended vocal techniques, individuality and timbre results in a unique quality to the groups collective tone. Through the use of their unique effect controllers "Maccatrols", they create wide electroacoustic soundscapes, subtle noise, hauntingly beautiful chorales, and ambient beats.
Free improvisation plays a vital part in their concerts, but also incorporating original compositions from the group members and music written for the ensemble by composers such as Jon Balke, Ståle Storløkken and Christian Wallumrød.
Norways leading sound designer Asle Karstad has exclusively developed and designed the effect controller ”Maccatrol” for the ensemble: a small wireless box carried on the body, enabling each singer to move freely, individually processing themselves in the room, using effects and loops. The singers perform within a surround setup, sharing space with the audience and breaking down the barrier of the conventional stage setting.
This gives the audience a unique listening experience.Stemmer og Maccatrols:
