Since the early 2000s, Iro Haarla has led her own groups performing her own material. Among her production, the recordings from German label ECM Records is arguably the most notable. The two albums produced by Manfred Eicher, Northbound (2005) and Vespers (2011) performed by the Finnish-Norwegian Iro Haarla Quintet, have received critical acclaim internationally.

“Vespers” was awarded the EMMA Award for the best jazz recording in Finland in 2011.

The album Ante Lucem, released for ECM-Records in August 2016, is a four-part composition for jazz quintet and symphony orchestra, premiered and recorded by the Iro Haarla Quintet with NorrlandsOperans Symfoniorkester, conducted by Jukka Iisakkila at the Umeå Jazz Festival in Sweden 2012.
